Canongate
Canongate runs from Alnwick Abbey to the church of St Michael, originally crossing the Aln by a ford (now Canongate Bridge). The settlement had its own manorial court and its burgesses, who were tenants of Alnwick Abbey and had rights of pasture on Alnwick Moor. Its market and guilds developed independently from those in the town.
