Conzen: "The road from Eglingham approached Alnwick by Bassington, East Brizlee, Stony Peth and Ratten Row on the north-west side of the town. It appears as the only highway to Eglingham on Armstrong's Map of Northumberland of 1769 and as late as 1824 existed as a 'bridle road'- before the extension and re-design of Hulne Park had obliterated this ancient right of way altogether."
