Address is 20 Bondgate Within.
Woods and Company was founded in Newcastle in 1859 to acquire the failing Newcastle, Shields & Sunderland Union Joint Stock Bank.
They opened an Alnwick branch in 1875. When they amalgamated with Barclays in August 1897, Woods became the Newcastle Regional Offiice, and Barclays had a presence in Alnwick.
The building on Bondgate incorporates an early C18th house. The new front was approved in April 1883 before Woods amalgamated with Barclays. "Plans were submitted by Messrs Woods & Co. for additions and alterations to their banking premises on Bondgate, the chief feature of which was extension of the front to the line of the railings. The Street Committee thought ie would be well if Messrs Woods & Co. would build the front of the new portion in line with the Swan Hotel buildings, otherwise a small recess would be left. 'The plans were approved of, the suggestion of the committee to sent to Messrs Woods".
