OS name book - William the Lion Monument

A handsome monument very recently erected on the spot where William the Lion was taken Prisoner.  It is inscribed as follows. "William the Lion, King of Scotland, beseiging Alnwick Castle was here taken prisoner 1174". The present Monument occupies the site of the more ancient one removed during the early part of the present year 1864. "Monument built of Sandstone with Granite tablet for its insciption
