Head of cross formed by lozenge shaped blind tracery panels. The necking has crescents and manacles at its cardinal points (Percy).

Alnwick Mercy 4th Jan 1874: "the town has been presented with a kind of New Year's gift in the shape of improvement to the Market Cross, from which the old top has been removed and a more ornamented one substituted its place. The work has been executed by Mr Daniel Macmillan, who, as your readers know, is cunning in all manner of carved work in stone : the design was supplied Mr F. R Wilson, architect. Doubtless it is an improvement, but the old familiar aspect of the Cross has been altered by the change, and we must now have recourse to the plate in Davison's old History of Alnwick to recal its former appearance".
