Jan 1889 - The design submitted by Messrs. Boolds and Hardy, Architects, Morpeth and Blyth, in open competition for the New Block of Buildings for Messrs. Hardy Bros., Alnwick, has been selected. Feb 1889 - Messrs Hardy Bros, submitted plans prepared by Boolds, architect, of Morpeth, for three new shops and dwelling-houses and for workshops in Bondgate Without. The plans were very complete of their kind. The new front was shown set bask from the present line about six inches, or 20 from the end, and about two feet at the end next the Victoria Place property. There would be some ornamental pilasters at the new archway and a projecting bay window in the storey above the ground floor. Messrs Hardy Brothers had written stating that if the Board wished to purchase the strip of gronnd that added the width of the public footway, the price would be at the rate of per square yard, which wae the average price they paid for the site. At this rate the amount asked for would be £l0 or £l2. It was resolved that on the motion of Dr Candlisb, seconded by Mr Horsley, the plan passed, and that the Board offer the sum 10s per square yard for the ground given to the public.

March 1889: The Surveyor reported that the work of demolition of the existing premises lately purchased Messrs. Hardy Brothers in Bondgate Street had been commenced, and he recommended that hoarding with a gangway with handrail be provided to keep it from the street during the work of demolition and re-construction.
