36 & 38, Green Batt

Description

GREEN BATT 1. 5330 (North Side) Nos 36 and 38 NU 1813 SE 1/265 II 2. Early-mid C19. Two storeys, 3+2 windows. Ashlar built with slate roof and 3 yellow brick chimneys. Late glazed sash windows. Central segmental archway to No 36 for throughpassage and side door to house. Plain doorway to No 38 on left.

This is the former Queen's Hotel. It appear in directories around the middle of the 19th century and was described in the Ordnance Survey Name Books (1850 - 66) as "an ordinary public house with an ambitious name".
